The Creation of Mirrors

The Feywild and The Shadowfell did not always exist. A long, long time ago, there were additional realms in the Astral Sea, called The Beastlands, Arborea and Ysgard. The Grey Waste was much larger, with Pluton being just one of three realms therein. The Blood War began to cause problems for the good creatures of the cosmos (where previously it kept demons and devils otherwise occupied). The War found its way to the Neutral Evil plane of The Grey Waste, which was very quickly left in ruin. But fighting on the lower planes was not enough for the Fiends. Soon their war began to leak into the good realms of the Beastlands, Arborea and even Ysgard. At first, the creatures there welcomed the conflict (being that they were chaotic good and often enjoy a good fight). It was soon clear however that the conflict would consume those planes as well if it was not halted. The three Seldarine (Corellon, Sehanine and Lolth, then not evil), worked to create new realms from the Beastlands, Arborea and Ysgard. They created the Feywild, a beautiful and magical reflection of Atlea they could call their own. They also created a new Astral Dominion named Arvandor, the personal realm of the Seldarine. They convinced the rest of the Gods that the Blood War threatened to spread if it was not contained, which resulted in the shattering of the Grey Waste’s three realms. Because the evil death energy of those realms could not be destroyed, the gods were forced to create a new realm to place it in. It was Nerull, the god of death at the time, that suggested a shadow reflection of Atlea be created, which was then called the Shadowfell. Only one realm of the Grey Waste remained, Pluton, which was the dominion of Nerull himself. Nerull would ordinarily be displeased with the shattering of his realm, but the creation of the Shadowfell gave him considerably greater influence over Atlea, the mortal realm.
